FAQs
The provisions of the Employment and Industrial Relations Act related to the method of payment of wages earned by or payable to third-country nationals shall come into force on 1st October 2025.
This requirement will apply to all third-country nationals whose employment begins on 1st October 2025 or afterwards.
The definition of a ‘Third Country National’ is the same as in the Immigration Act and the Employment and Industrial Relations Act (EIRA).
Any wages earned by or owed to a third-country nationals must be paid only through a bank transfer to an account in the employee’s name or via an electronic transfer through a licensed and accredited financial institution.
Employers are advised to use a payroll system connected to a licensed and accredited bank to make payments to their employees.
Both the employer and employee should keep clear records of salary payments, including amounts, dates, and payment methods, to ensure transparency and provide evidence in case of audits or investigations.
